Saving the Planet

Dearest High Advanced 2 and ACC students,

Here's the video I told you about...took me a while (my net was out) but here it is! So, what do you have to do?

High Adv.2: remember the single issue causes? this is one...comment on what you think about the video.

ACC fellows: remember our last class about 'green awarness'? watch the video and write some paragraphs telling wheather you do or do not agree with him.

ALL of you: have fun! This is a GREAT video...ENJOY!

  1. I agree to what he said about the planet, that it's going nowhere, but we are. But it's not because of that that we have to stop "saving the world". Helping is never too much, so what's the problem on trying to fix our own mistakes?
Maybe the world fixed it for itself, but we don't know, it's a hypothesis, so let's help each other to try not to get killed for our egoism and greedy.

  2. I agree with this because we are worrying about things like plastic bags or cans when there are worse things and how he says we can`t even take care of ourselves so how can we take care of the planet and it wouldn`t led to nothing so what we need to do is to fix our own mistakes and perhaps the world concert itself.

  3. I like this video! Calin talks about something is wrong in the planet, like he said, the planet is good the problems are the people. We don´t have conscious and every day we contribute with the polution in the world, like plastic bags in the rivers, using excess water, carbonic gaz like aerosol, etc.. We need correct our attitudes and preserve the enviroment because it affect us in especially and also affect the plants and animals. I think we need work together to save the world!

  4. The video shows George Calin's opinion about the planet, about "saving the world." In short, he says that the planet is okay, people who spoil.
I partially agree with the view of Calin.
He says people are so arrogant they think they will save the planet with an eco-friendly bag (this part I agree with him). In the other hand, George gives the impression that human beings can do nothing to help the planet and that does not bring any prejudice to the planet (this part I disagree).
I agree when he says the biggest problem is people because while they are not aware they will be hurt the most and not the world. We have to stop and think about it!
The video is somewhat radical and innovative. It's a interesting point of view!

(Sorry about the late teacher, I was traveling!)

  5. George Carlin talks about something really interesting: taking care of the environment is driving us crazy!
People think humans are the cause of every single problem in this world! So we try to save the whole world without thinking that we are also animals and, exactly as more than 90% of the species that have ever lived in Earth, we will be extinct one day. We can try to make our specie live a few hundreds years more, but soon it will be over for us. Just like the pandas and someother animals we try to save from extinction.
What Carlin tries to tell us is: do what is in your range, but put your life in the first place, try to live your life! Because your grangrandson might have some problems to live, but there is no way to avoid it. Or do you think population around the world can continue growing forever? What do you think of a world with over 100 billion people? That's impossible! But after we go away, the planet will continue here. New species might grow. Maybe better species than us. And so the history of the universe goes on.
However, we can not simply destroy the whole world. We can not live like americans, who abuse of everything and act like we would live forever. That is a thing we have to pay attention: the person who is talking in the video and the listeners are american, with the famous "American way of life", completely exagerated. We have to avoid living like that, but Brazil, for example, does not have such big enviromental problems that need us to to waste a lifetime taking care of the forests, rivers, etc. The big nations are the ones who have to do it.

  6. A lot of things the guy in the video is talking are bullshit, but we dont have to consider because is a humor show. First, the modifications that the men is doing nowadays to save the threatened species are a way to correct the changes that the own men have been doing in the planet ecosystems. Second, yes, 99% of all species that have already lived in the Earth gone. But the speed this occurred was so much slow than the lost of diversity is happening now. To give one example, you can read this http://bit.ly/bFvMOp and this http://uol.com/bdjKf news.
The Earth have 4.5 billion years, during which have occurred a lot of big changes, but the human industries, alimentation, economy, etc, is established over the climate of the last 5000 years. Any big change in this scenery will produce a collapse in the major of the human population. Along the 4.5 billion years of the planet existence, the climate changed many times, but these changes were slow and gradual, so that species could adapt and specialize, leading to the diversity that exists today. When changes were sudden or so fast (like the current changes), the result was mass extinctions.
When environmentalists say "save the planet" they refer to act to maintain conditions in which the human population and other species that still exist could be preserved. After all, nobody wants to be extinct, do you?

I agree with this person because we are in a racer to save de world but we have to see waht we are doing to help this cause.
All people talk about the pollution and many things like this, but a little part of the population do anything to help the planet.
We are worring about plastic bags and things like this, but we must find that pollutes more and stop this evil.

  8. He says a lot of things that might be considered somehow offensive by people who are really worried about the planet, but he does have a point and I agree 100% with him.
Why would the planet be OVER because of us?The planet has been around for a long time and a few hundreds of years of stupid people living in it won't cause SUCH a severe damage.
People these days are not worried about the planet, they are worried about themselves. They don't wanna die due to natural disasters, no one does, but, like George Carlin says in the video, the planet will be around a long time after we are gone.

  9. I agree with Carlin when he says that the Earth has a self-regulation system and the humans change this system polluting the air, river and etc and the planet answer with natural disasters.
But plastics bags are not going “save” the planet, but higher attitudes as reduce greenhouse gas emission can do some effect.
The humans are trying repair the bullshit what they did, but thinking in themselves not in the planet

  10. I disagree

200 years of industry are destroying Earth's atmosphere.

Do you know any other planet with the same atmosphere? There is life in some planet with other atmosphere condition?

Earth maybe will stay here forever but we have to choose if it will become just a planet like Mars or Venus.

We did this shit and we are the only that can fix it.

  11. I agree with George Carlin, he says one tinhg that is very true, the planet has been trought worse, the natural disasters, and we think some plastic bags will make the difference?!
Planet has been here for a long time and it´s not because of us that this is going to have an end.We can mitigate some damage, but only if we care about the real concern issues, not with an aluminum can.

  12. I agree and i like very much with this dude! He's very funny. Everybody had your responsability about the planet, nature, temperature, etc. We have the obligation of take care and fix of the our world.

    Think about it.
